Glendale Little League Spring Season

Our spring program offers young players of all skill levels the opportunity to develop their baseball abilities while having a great time on the field. From our youngest Tee Ball players to our experienced Juniors, we focus on building a love for the game and fostering teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Glendale Little League proudly serves the communities of Glendale, River Hills, Bayside, and Fox Point.

Registration Information

Spring Season: Registration opens early December. Registration closes mid-February for Juniors, Majors, and Minors Divisions (due to player evaluations) and mid-April for Tee Ball and Rookies Divisions. Season runs April-June.

Key Dates:

  • Evaluations: Typically the last weekend in February
  • Practices begin: Mid March
  • Opening Day: Late April

Financial assistance available - no child turned away due to financial constraints.

Parents are essential partners in creating a positive baseball experience!

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Coaching, team parent, field maintenance, concessions, scorekeeping
  • Equipment Exchange: Donate or receive gently used equipment via our Resale Page on Facebook
  • Training: Coach certification and umpire clinics available

All volunteers undergo background checks and receive proper training.

Tee Ball (Ages 4-6)

An Introduction to Baseball Fun

The perfect starting point for K4 and K5 children (ages 4-6) to learn baseball basics in a fun, non-competitive environment.

  • Batting Skills: Learn basic stance and swing mechanics using a stationary tee at ideal hitting height.
  • Fielding Fundamentals: Develop hand-eye coordination with proper glove position and basic throwing mechanics.
  • Base Running: Learn proper base running direction and rules through game-based activities.
  • Team Concepts: Understand basic positions and teamwork while rotating through all defensive positions.
  • Character Development: Build social skills including following directions, taking turns, sharing, and enjoying group activities.
  • Game Format: 2-hour Saturday morning games with a pre-game practice. All players bat each inning.

Development Pathway: Tee Ball builds the motor skills and social foundation needed for Coach Pitch, where players will begin hitting a moving ball.

Rookies - Coach Pitch League (Ages 5-7)

Next Step in Learning Baseball

For K5 and 1st graders ready to advance from tee hitting to pitched balls, with coaches pitching at controlled speeds to build confidence.

  • Hitting Advancement: Transition to hitting moving balls pitched by coaches, focusing on tracking, timing and contact.
  • Fielding Progress: Learn proper fielding stance and throwing to the correct base in game situations.
  • Position Awareness: Understand basic position responsibilities while safely rotating through all possible defensive spots.
  • Baseball Rules: Introduction to basics, like outs, force plays, and simple game situations.
  • Character Growth: Develop patience, listening skills, and basic emotional regulation while learning good sportsmanship.
  • Game Format: 6-inning games with coach pitching (5-pitch maximum with tee option). Weeknight practices and Saturday games.

Development Pathway: Coach Pitch builds hitting confidence and emotional maturity, preparing players for Machine Pitch with faster, more consistent pitches.

Rookies - Machine Pitch League (Ages 6-8)

Stepping Up the Game

For 1st and 2nd graders with basic hitting skills. Consistent machine pitching helps develop advanced batting and defensive skills.

  • Consistent Hitting: Mechanical pitching (35-40 mph) allows focus on proper stance, swing mechanics and hit placement.
  • Defensive Strategy: Learn positioning, backing up bases, and making plays to the correct base.
  • Baseball IQ: Understand force outs, tag-ups, basic baserunning strategy, and situational awareness.
  • Team Cooperation: Communicate with teammates and work together on defense.
  • Personal Growth: Build resilience, confidence, and teamwork. Learn to bounce back from setbacks and value practice.
  • Game Format: 6-inning games with 5-run maximum per inning. Score kept but standings not emphasized.

Development Pathway: Machine Pitch builds hitting confidence and teamwork, preparing players for Minors where they'll face live player pitching.

Minors League (Ages 9-10)

Building Skills and Understanding the Full Game

Introduces 3rd and 4th graders to player pitching and more complex rules, developing advanced skills and game strategy.

  • Player Pitching: Learn proper mechanics and accuracy with age-appropriate pitch counts and rest requirements.
  • Advanced Hitting: Adjust to different pitch speeds and locations while developing consistent swing mechanics.
  • Defensive Skills: Begin position specialization while still learning multiple positions. Master footwork, double plays, and cutoffs.
  • Game Strategy: Learn sacrifice bunts, hit-and-run plays, and defensive positioning based on game situations.
  • Life Skills: Develop concentration, focus, and emotional control. Accept constructive criticism and respect opponents and umpires.
  • Game Format: 6-inning games with umpires. Regular season standings and end-of-season tournament.

Development Pathway: Minors introduces live pitching and strategic play while teaching sportsmanship, preparing players for higher competition in Majors.

Majors League (Ages 11-12)

Advancing to the Next Level

For 5th and 6th graders ready for higher competition on traditional Little League fields (46' pitching, 60' bases).

  • Pitching Development: Learn different pitch types, location strategy, and techniques for holding runners.
  • Situational Hitting: Master hit placement, moving runners, adjusting to different pitchers, and plate discipline.
  • Defensive Specialization: Focus on primary positions while mastering advanced concepts like double cuts and bunt coverage.
  • Baseball Strategy: Learn pitch selection, defensive positioning, and baserunning decisions through game situations.
  • Character Building: Develop responsibility, accountability, and leadership. Learn mental toughness and team commitment.
  • Game Format: Official Little League rules with formal umpiring, scorekeeping, and standings. Teams selected through player evaluation.

Development Pathway: Majors reinforces fundamentals and develops character traits essential for success at higher levels, preparing for Intermediate 50/70.

Juniors League (Ages 12-14)

The Full Baseball Experience

Provides 7th-8th graders with regulation baseball experience (60'6" pitching, 90' bases) as direct preparation for high school baseball.

  • Full-Field Skills: Adapt to regulation dimensions by developing arm strength for longer throws and adjusting timing between bases.
  • Advanced Pitching: Master pitch variety, location, and situational pitching while building stamina and velocity.
  • Complete Hitting: Adjust to higher-level pitching with refined timing and approach. Develop power hitting and all-field hitting ability.
  • Position Mastery: Receive position-specific coaching resembling high school instruction with emphasis on defensive systems.
  • Leadership Development: Build mature leadership, mental toughness, and time management. Learn to balance academics with athletics and mentor younger players.
  • Player-Led Game Management: Take ownership of on-field decisions and strategy in preparation for high school expectations.

Development Pathway: Juniors completes the Little League progression, preparing players for the Nicolet Knights high school program with strong foundations in baseball skills and character development.
